Path 39: Factory-Built Construction and the American Homebuyer
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) contracted with Optimal to conduct a nationally representative study of consumer perceptions regarding factory- and site-built housing and associated technologies. Optimal developed and facilitated both telephone- and web-based survey instruments to capture consumer awareness of and attitudes toward manufactured, modular, panelized, and site-built construction methods. The team completed approximately 2,500 telephone surveys and 10,000 web-based surveys, and used SAS statistical software to clean and analyze the results. The results of the analysis were then used to create recommendations for marketing strategies and tools in response to the survey findings, which apply to factory-built housing manufacturers and homebuilders.
